La Dolce Vita is an Italian restaurant in Tim Buck II in Corolla. I have been there a few times for lunch around spring break time, and I thought it was just okay. But I went there for dinner this week and was very impressed with the food and the atmosphere. I never noticed that there was outside seating before, but we sat outside on a really nice night. From the patio there is a view of the nearby pond with fountain, mini golf range, and The Currituck Sound in the background. Our meal started with a greens salad with an incredible house Italian dressing, and fresh baked bread with dipping oil. Our entrees were traditional pasta dinners. They also have many seafood/pasta dinners as well as many specialty gourmet pizzas. They have a kids menu. I’m looking forward to our next visit to La Dolce Vita.

Metropolis

Metropolis is a contemporary martini and tapas bar in Corolla with a chic, urban, adult atmosphere. They are known for their hand crafted martinis and very creative tapas dishes. Metropolis has a very cool and very unique atmosphere for The Outer Banks. We have brought our boys here a few times, but with the tapas style or portions they are still hungry when we leave.

You can reach them at 252-453-6167 or see their menu online at Metropolis. From Eagles Landing, turn left on Hunt Club drive, go past the three way stop, proceed through The Currituck Club, exit through the southern entrance, then bear to the right, and you will see the restaurant.

Whalehead Club

The Whalehead Club at Currituck Herritage Park is one of our favorite places in The Outer Banks. It is a very nice sound side park that we enjoy throughout the year. You will see incredible sunsets over the Currituck Sound. There is a Summer Concert series on Thursday evenings.

This is a great place to fly kites! It also includes The Wildlife Education center which is a small museum with exhibits on geese and other local wildlife. There are fish aquariums. as well as different educational tours and programs. This is a great place for family photos as well as nature photography.The Whalehead Club is also next to The Currituck Lighthouse, and you can also walk into the Corolla Historic District.

From The Currituck Club head north on Route 12 for about 4.5 miles until you see the entrance on the left.

Tim Buck II

Tim Buck II is a shopping, recreation, and dining center of Corolla. There are over 60 shops which are primarily vacation, activity, and gift oriented. It is a popular place to hang out, especially at night. You will find window shopping, ice cream shops, and generally a good walking around after dinner kind of place. There are nice restaurants serving lunch and dinner such as Mike & Dianna’s Grill Room, Route 12 Steak & Seafood, and Fin & Claw. For activities you will find go karts at Corolla Raceway, bumper cars, paddle boats, kayaks, and miniature golf. Some of our favorite shops are Tailgaters, Kitty Hawk Kites, and Grays. There is a little of everything at Tim Buck II.

To get to Tim Buck II, go out the main entrance of The Currituck Club, turn left and go a mile north on Route 12, and you will see it on the left.

The Blue Point

The Blue Point is a very good and very popular restaurant in Duck. It has great food and great views overlooking the Currituck Sound. Don’t wait till you get there to make a reservation. They take reservations a month in advance, but at least three weeks in advance is recommended for June, July, and August. We have not been to Blue Point for dinner in several years, but we often go for lunch during the off season. They are on the Currituck Sound Boardwalk in Duck, so it is in a perfect place for a before or after dinner walk.

Tommys Market

Tommy’s is a small family owned shop in Duck. You can find almost everything you need including top quality meat, seafood, produce. It’s a bit of a trek from Corolla, but we time our trip around other trips up and down route 12. It’s on the left,heading north.

We usually find what we need at the Harris Teeter store in Corolla. But if you are looking for better beef, better seafood, and better produce along with a lot of personal attention for your shopping, then this is the place to go. Tommy’s is known to have the best crab cake on the Outer Banks.

Brew Thru

What a great concept – drive into a garage and order beer, soda,and snacks without getting out of your air conditioned car. Some say that it is not a trip to The Outer Banks without at least one visit to the Brew Thru. If you drive around The Outer Banks, you will see their stores in several locations.

Their annual T-Shirts are also an Outer Banks classic collector item. On the day before Hurricane Irene last Summer, this was the only place we found open in Corolla to replenish our supplies.

Duck’s Cottage

Duck’s Cottage is a bit too far to drive just for coffee, but if you are going to Duck or passing south through Duck you should stop at Duck’s Cottage for good coffee, espresso drinks, newspapers, books. We have been to Duck’s Cottage many times, mostly in the off season. I am mostly a black coffee drinker, but I do like the lattes at Duck’s Cottage.

It’s a nice place to just hang out. After you get your coffee, walk over to the boardwalk and enjoy the view of The Currituck Sound where you will see incredible sunsets. And there are some nice little shops along the boardwalk

Bunkers Grille at The Currituck Club

We highly recommend The Grille. The food, the atmosphere, and the people are very nice. You will have a great selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads, and other entrees to choose for your lunch.

They are primarily open only for lunch, but on Mondays during the Summer, they serve dinner. The Monday dinners are a limited set of dinner meals plus the standard lunch menu options. The dinner menu is very reasonably priced. You will need reservations for the Monday evening dinner.

Bunkers Grille is located in the club house at The Currituck Club which is a very short walk from Eagles Landing. You can reach them at 252-453-9400.

Pizzazz Pizza

Pizzazz is our most frequent place for pizza on our trips. It has a few tables, but is mostly for take out. They serve traditional style pizza starting with cheese and you add your toppings, and they serve specialty pizzas such as Greek, Hawaiian, California White. They also serve salads and subs.

They do deliver, but with the summer crowds, you will be better off picking up the pizza yourself. We usually find Pizzazz to be open much further into the off season than other pizza places in Corolla.
